House Captains

Children in KS2 are divided into six houses: Boston Manor, Gunnersbury, Osterley, Hogarth, Syon and Chiswick. Each term, children vote to elect their house captains. This democratic process supports Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states that children have the right to express their views and have them taken seriously in matters that affect them.

Through the house system, children learn about fairness, respect, responsibility and democracy, while adults support them in exercising their rights in a safe and inclusive environment. This reflects Article 29, which focuses on developing children’s personalities, talents and abilities to their fullest potential.

By standing for election and voting, children further develop leadership skills and confidence, supporting Article 15, which recognises children’s right to join groups and take part in decision-making. House captains act as positive role models by leading house events, collecting house points each week, supporting KS1 children during wet play, and carrying out a range of responsibilities around the school.

House captains have also organised charitable events, such as a “Longest Line of Coins” challenge, with the money raised donated to Crisis, a charity supporting people experiencing homelessness. In addition, children across all houses have enjoyed a range of fun and inclusive activities, including house matches, picnics on the field, an Easter egg hunt, and the “Find the Elf” challenge, helping to strengthen teamwork and a sense of community.
