Geography
At our school, the intent of our geography curriculum is to inspire pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, both now and in the future. We aim to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, and vocabulary needed to understand the physical and human processes that shape places and environments, and how these change over time.
Our geography curriculum is designed to build progressively from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. Pupils begin by exploring their local area and familiar environments, developing an understanding of place through first-hand experiences and simple fieldwork. As they move through the school, pupils broaden their knowledge to include the United Kingdom, Europe, and the wider world, enabling them to make meaningful comparisons between different locations, cultures, and environments.
We place a strong emphasis on developing geographical skills, including map reading, fieldwork, data collection, and the use of geographical vocabulary. These skills are taught sequentially and revisited regularly to ensure pupils can apply their learning with increasing confidence and independence.
Through our geography curriculum, pupils develop an appreciation of the diversity of the world and an understanding of how human actions impact the environment. We aim to nurture responsible, informed global citizens who are curious, respectful, and aware of their role in protecting the planet for future generations.
