Black History Month 2013
We have been learning about the country of Barbados. We read the stories ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and ‘Grace and Family’. We made our own tropical fruit salads, they were delicious! In maths, we pretended to be customers and shopkeepers in our shop and used real money to buy fruit and vegetables.
We learned about Malorie Blackman, the famous children’s author whose parents came from Barbados. We read stories by Malorie Blackman, they were very funny! We also found out about the Barbadian festival of ‘Crop Over’. We planted our own crops. We also designed masks, jewellery and shakers. Our carnival was so much fun; we sang Caribbean songs, danced and played our instruments!
