Welcome to Spring Term 2017!

English:  In the first half of term we will base our English work around the text Varjak Paw by S F Said - an adventure story about a cat who must learn a secret martial art to survive and save his family.  After half term we will read The Firework Maker's Daughter by Philip Pullman which tells the story of a little girl Lila who travels far and wide on her quest to become the greatest firework maker.

Maths - We will continue to develop understanding, confidence and skills in

  • Place value

  • Written and mental methods for all operations

  • Fractions and decimals

  • Statistics

  • Measurement and time

  • Geometry

  • We need to know our timetables really well by the end of spring, even the x12s!

Topic Work:  In the first half of term we study Ancient Egypt through 'Temples, Tombs and Treasures'.  This unit is supplemented with a fantastic whole day workshop all about life in Ancient Egypt.  Then after the break we learn all about the Rainforest which also links to our science work on Living Things and Their Habitats.

Science:  We learn about Sound in the first half of term and Living Things and their Habitats leading up to Easter.
